We had a great first week of school! Be sure to follow me on Twitter @ColetteMurphy25 to see some pictures from our first week.
We are learning new routines and procedures and getting into the swing of a new school year.
Math- We start the year by reviewing place value, addition, and subtraction with numbers up to 100,000. I sent home a parent letter that details the vocabulary students will be learning in class.
Reading- We are learning the routines of reading workshop and building up our reading stamina.
Social Studies- We begin the year by discussing Native Americans. This week we talked about how scientists believe that the first Native Americans in North America migrated from Siberia. They crossed a land bridge during the last Ice Age. We will be going to the Grove in a few weeks to see a replica of a long house and discuss how Native Americans adapted to life in the Midwest.
I look forward to seeing everyone at Curriculum Night. It is next Wednesday, 9/4.
Have a great three-day weekend!
